Watching the sunset

Repost from 27.5.2019 (My sunsets)

Watching the sunset and being present in this moment. Sometimes it's hard to slow down and realize the significance of enjoying a moment.

It can be a walk in the woods, watching flowers, sitting down and eating ice cream.

Without smartphone and all the information, that's surrounding us all the time.

Something to learn in a new way.

To gain back lost concentration.

It's easy to move forward without concentrating on what's going on right now.

Still the present moment is where we live.

And living in a feeling of hurry isn't even very productive.

I can be doing many things at the same time. It's not any problem. The problem is, that it shouldn't go on whole day. Moments of rest are needed.

The benefits of learning to be present are
  • Learning to listen to what someone says
  • Better concentration and ability to stay focused
There are a lot of things waiting to be done all the time.
What is actually the most effective way to get them done?

I think it's concentrating on one thing at a time. Not losing focus.

Creativity and new ideas need space and restful moments.

Be happy in the moment, that's enough. Each moment is all we need, not more.

Around the corner

"Time isn't the main thing. It's the only thing." -Miles Davis

What should we do with our time?

A few good ways of spending time is to take a walk in the forest, spend time with family and learn new things.

Here in Finland we are lucky to live close to the nature.

Now it's not possible to go far away or travel. Last weekend I went just around the corner with the kids, and we had a picnic.

I also baked Karelian pies for the first time. It wasn't so easy. Next time will be easier. And the result maybe better.

Now during Covid-19 it's important to have something to do. Baking more is one good way to spend time.

Stay safe!

Tylsyyttä taukotilassa

Aloin viime viikolla lukemaan kirjaa "Ajatteleva johtaja". Ihan vaan mielenkiinnosta, Kirjasta löytyikin monia hyviä ajatuksia liittyen mindfulnessiin ja läsnäolemisen taitoon.

Ajatusten innostamana tein perjantaina "tylsyystestin". Halusin kokeilla pystynkö istumaan ja juomaan kahvin, sekä syömään puuron ilman mitään virikkeitä työpaikan taukotilassa. Jätin puhelimen ulottumattomiin, enkä selannut mitään lehteä. Testini loppuvaiheessa työkaveri katsoi minua uteliaana ja kysyi: "Mitä oikein teet? Meditoitko?"

Mielellä on luontainen taipumus harhailla.

Mieli varmasti harhailee edelleen.

The art of messing up several things at the same time

After making the decision in the beginning of this year to get myself more organized, I have realized a few things. One thing is, that it takes time to form new habits. Life is a process.

Life also is like a puzzle, you have to get certain pieces in place before you can see the whole picture.

Sometimes it's good to stop, breath and think before acting.

It could be called mindfulness.

When you're in a hurry it's easier to rush forward. Instead of stopping and thinking what you could do differently. Is this hurry something, that could be avoided by slowing down for a while and re-organizing things?

The changes can be very small. Still they can be helpful.

This year I have managed to finish things better than before. It has become possible only by concentrating on one thing at a time. Less multitasking, and more concentration on one task. Also finishing that task, always when it's possible.

It's very simple. Doing only one thing at a time.

Productivity doesn't come from doing more and faster. By doing more than one thing you will become busier for sure. Studies have shown, that multitasking makes us less productive.

Our full presence to the task at hand, the conversation, the true connection is compromised by our inability to unplug and do just one thing.
